If you remain in my word –

 

Or, in this doctrine which is mine, it is not enough to receive the truth from God: we must preserve it and walk according to it. And it is only when we receive the truth, love it, keep it, and walk according to it, that we are true disciples of Christ.

 

You will know the truth –

 

You will have constant experiential knowledge of its power and effectiveness.

And the truth will set you free –

 

The Jewish maxim was: “No one is free except one who practices the meditation of the Law.” No one is truly free except one in whom the omnipotence of sin is destroyed, and who has received the Spirit of adoption, through whom he cries out: “Abba! Father!” See Romans 8:15. The slavery of sin is the most painful of slaverys; and liberation from its guilt and its hold is the greatest freedom.
